We spent the afternoon with a friend and her two kids today. Most people who know me (well) would say i am not a "kid person". Not because i dislike kids. I scare them for some reason.=( I would smile at them and they would either run to their mothers or start crying! Kidding.=) (Mmm..maybe not.) I have a "hard" face. I wouldn't say "scary" face (though some of my stolen shots scare ME too!). Diddy asked me once, "If you saw YOU coming, would you say hello?" I had to be honest and said "No." I have good angles, or shall we say, "NOT BAD" angles but my default aura wouldn't make you start singing "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.." And that is not my fault. It's purely genetic. Thanks to my mother who looks like one of those women who are named "FIONA", who comes out at night to eat babies! Nobody, not a single creature, called me "Angel". There was not a single person in the world who was brave enough to lie in my face.=) But i swear to you, i am not as bad as i look.
So yes, my own little cousins (nephews/nieces) run away from me. (yes, my own flesh and blood!!!) I think their parents told them bed time stories about witches and used me as an example. One of my (brave nephews) asked me once about my broomstick. I still buy him Christmas gifts but i will talk to him about this when he's old enough to defend himself. So when i first met these kids (our friend's kids; one 4 and one 6), their mother had to threaten them before they finally gave me a kiss! This afternoon was only the second time their mother was able to trick them into meeting Auntie Sha and Lai (my 2 sisters). They had no idea "the other one" was coming too.=) They of course sat as far away from me as possible but after an hour or so, they got used to my "presence". And in that 1 hour, i could see these things, "But she doesn't have fangs..", "Is her tail under that silk kimono jacket?", "Are her horns hiding under her Frida Kahlo flowers?", "Would those blue and pink nails grow when she gets upset?" in their eyes. Followed by "Mommy she's cackling..", "Did she just wink at me?". I could see the little boy encouraging his little sister to go to me as if saying "Go to her and if she doesnt bite your head off, I'll lend you my favourite toy!". I cant blame them. I dont think their mum said anything horrible about me because i think she knows her kids are way too smart to shut up.=) Diddy's theory is that it's animal instinct, plain and simple. That natural reaction towards things that you believe to be dangerous. Yes. He is very mean. And if the person who calls you "THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE" says that, there's no point in blaming the weird outfit.
But the kids stayed and didnt fake a stomach pain just to get away. I told you, I'm not as bad as i look.=) And..i am actually borrowing Charlie (the little girl) next week to cheer me (and Diddy) up and buy her some ice cream in return.=) The truth is, i love kids. Some really piss me off, especially those who scream at their mother, at 3!, but kids like Charlie make my day.=) I showed her some of my looks from my SS11 project and she said "So you like to dance in the park." She's one of those kids who remind me of the days when the only thing i worry about was winning my marbles back, or which spot in the yard will i build our next tent. I've grown to be a complicated, f*cked up, person worrying about plastic, and bald forests, dirty oceans, extinct frogs, stray dogs, future generation living in boats, people killing other people who dont believe in what they believe in, friends who dont believe dinosaurs really existed, the dying sun and love not lasting forever etc. I didnt have to suffer these when i was small like Charlie.
She will grow up too. And i hope she will only worry about getting that gorgeous piece from Prada's latest collection, or not getting her Chanel bag scratched, or not breaking her heels when she's running late... Unlike me, beautiful girls like her should never get depressed, cry, or worry...
